WHAT IS A “DEATH DOULA”?
A Death Doula is someone that assists with the transition at the end of life. A spiritual guide that can take on many different roles tailored to each person’s needs or wants.
ARE DOULAS CERTIFIED?
Many are not. However there has been a growing movement that has found many individuals becoming certified, as myself. You do not have to use a certified Doula if you choose not to. But due to covid regulations in the past some hospitals and nursing homes would not allow uncertified Doulas into facilities.
ARE DOULAS MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS?
While many Doulas do have a medical background they are not there to offer or provide medical care. We are there to comfort those at the end of their journey in this life. Most medical care is provided by Hospice or Hospital staff.
CAN I DIE AT HOME?
Most people would choose this option, as a Doula I attempt to make this possible.
WILL YOU BE THERE WHEN I PASS AWAY?
While I strive to be bedside, there is never any guarantee that I can be. I however can be called by family, your hospice nurses, medical staff or clergy and made aware that you are soon to or have already. I will make every attempt to be bedside with you as you transition. In the event we have made provisions for after your passing I will be there as soon as physically possible to carry out any and all arrangements.
